Reading, writing, and talking to your teammates never spends a credit. Talking to an agent does: a DM is charged the same as an @mention. The whole system is four rules:

Plans grant credits per member, per month, and they reset each cycle. Admins set a workspace default and can raise or lower any single member.
Every credit has a name on it.
A Scout answer bills the person who asked. A routine bills its owner. Admins see usage per member, not a mystery total.
At the limit, scheduled work holds. It never bills.
Routine runs wait, visibly, and resume on the next cycle or a limit raise. A reply someone is waiting on still goes through, and keeps spending to about three times the allowance before it holds too. Either way there is no overage billing to opt out of.
Failed runs refund themselves.
A run that fails puts its credits back. You pay for work, not attempts.

What is a credit?
One unit of measured agent work. Papaya measures what the model work behind a run cost and charges 30% of that measurement, so credits are metered rather than fixed-price. A Scout reply typically lands around 12 credits, a routine run 24–72 depending on its step count, a deep research report around 300. Reading, writing, and talking to your teammates never spends credits. Talking to an agent does: a DM, an @mention, and building an agent in chat all settle as replies, and a reply usually queues a short memory update behind it, about 1 credit more.
Are those numbers exact?
No, and we won't pretend otherwise: they are typical charges, not a price list. What a run costs depends on the work it did, so two Scout replies can differ several-fold: a one-line answer has settled as low as 6 credits, a long research-heavy one costs well above the typical figure. Plan against the shape of it: on Starter, 300 credits is roughly 25 Scout replies a month (about 50 if every one is a one-liner), or 3 composed dashboards.
Why is Papaya priced per member?
Because agent work is done for people. Every credit is attributed to the member it worked for, so allotments follow members too. Each person gets the same headroom, and a power user can get more without changing anyone else's plan.
What happens when someone reaches their limit?
Their scheduled runs hold. Held runs are visible and resume automatically at the next cycle, or as soon as an admin raises the limit. Work a person is waiting on (an @mention, a DM, a dashboard) still goes through, so nobody is cut off mid-conversation; that keeps spending to about three times the allowance and then holds as well, and says so where they are waiting. Other members are unaffected, and nothing turns into a bill.
Do credits roll over?
No. Allotments reset at the start of each billing cycle.
Do failed runs spend credits?
No. A run that fails refunds its credits automatically. The meter charges for work, not attempts.
How does annual billing work?
Annual billing saves 17%. Credits still reset monthly; the discount changes the invoice, not the meter.
